Front Page!

With all the snow we've been getting this week, Cal has been living up at Snowbasin. On Monday, Cal and my uncle EJ rode the lift up with Robert Johnson a photographer from the Standard Examiner. They asked Bob to come take some pictures of them in a chute they call "The Wave". That next day (Tuesday 10, 2009) Cal was on the FRONT PAGE of the Standard Examiner.

Here is the link to the slide show of pictures that were taken Monday http://www.standard.net/live/news/163961/ . As you are viewing the slide show Cal is frame #3 and EJ is #4.

Cal Speaking-

It was funny because I didn't realize who the guy was that squeezed onto our chair when the line wasn't very long. I was thinking, "Who is this guy and why doesn't he take the next chair?" Boy am I glad he got on with us. It wasn't until about half way up that I found out that he was a photographer. As he was taking a random picture of someone skiing, I noticed that on the camera it said Standard Examiner. Then as I was listening to EJ and Bob talk about journalism, it clicked. Wow, what a lucky guy, getting paid to ski powder and take some random pictures. I entered the conversation by stating, "You know I get 50% dumber when there is a camera around". Bob wanted to ski with us and get a few shots. So I began thinking of all the incredible places to take a picture and then I thought of the wave. I couldn't wait, finally Gena might get to see a picture of me skiing that wasn't 10 years old. As we came to the top of the chute, I felt a little awkward telling the guy where to take the picture from and where I was going to be. There would be only one shot to get and the rest would have trees in the way. I guess it was a good one because it ended up on the front page. Well, there goes my 15 minutes of fame!

The joys of owning a business!

A ladder, a deck, and ice don't go well together and Cal figured out the hard way. The other day Cal was cleaning windows at this house. He had to clean these windows on the back of the house just above the deck, but the deck had some snow, ice and water in patches. Cal thought nothing of it and put up the ladder and started cleaning the windows; then all a sudden the ladder slipped with Cal on it. As the ladder is sliding across the deck it gets stopped by the stairs. The sudden stop makes Cal slide through the ladder rungs and the top of the ladder goes through the WINDOW. So we had to replace the window. So much for that job it cost more then what the customer paid us to clean all of the windows. Hopefully they will return to us and allow us to clean them again.
